Supermassive Games, the studio behind narrative-driven titles such as Until Dawn and The Quarry, has announced its upcoming game Directive 8020. Positioned as the fifth installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology series, the title is currently scheduled for release on May 12.
While the studio maintains its signature cinematic storytelling style, the new project shifts the setting into space. Horror elements remain present, but early details suggest a stronger emphasis on science fiction compared to previous entries.
What We Know About Directive 8020
Players will take control of the crew aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia, sent on a mission to locate a new habitable world for humanity. The expedition quickly escalates into a survival scenario after the ship makes an unexpected landing on an uncharted planet.
The crew encounters a lethal life form capable of shapeshifting and impersonating humans, creating constant uncertainty about who can be trusted. This growing paranoia forms the core tension of the narrative and directly influences player choices.
As in previous games from the series, decisions are expected to shape the fate of the characters. Directive 8020 also introduces a new mechanic that allows players to revisit and change their choices, offering the opportunity to explore alternate story paths.
The game features Lashana Lynch, known for her roles in No Time to Die and Captain Marvel. Directive 8020 is planned to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
